Estimation of the quantity of dead wood after windthrow through aereal images in Tuscany, Italy
Kutchartt, Ruedlinger Erico Heinz
Tuscany has suffered severe windstorms in the last five years, causing major damages to the forests. Quantifying the damage after these disturbances has been the main concern for authorities. The objective of this study was develop a new, cost effective methodology to estimate dead wood volumes post windthrow through remote sensing and GIS tools, testing a supervised photo-interpretation in combination with LIS and an unsupervised photo-interpretation called NCC through RGB images with 0.2 m GSD. Additionally, field-assessed were obtained as control data. The study area was conducted in the Tuscany region, where 10 areas were selected. The species affected were mostly conifers. The results obtained by the unsupervised were better than supervised, but both methods did not show statistically significant differences. The NCC method showed promising results, but mostly in big areas, where the results showed accurate volumes. On the other side, small areas are not suitable to be under NCC methods yet, due to the low accuracy obtained in the volumes in this study.

Prokopová, Oldřiška ; Klusáková, Luďa (advisor) ; Power, Martina (referee) ; Militello, Paolo (referee) ; Erdösi, Péter (referee)
The Master's thesis is based on testimonies of eighteenth-century Tuscan travellers to England. The main questions of the research are how their own identity was created through the categorized and often-stereotyped image of the Other, whether and how it was related to the Enlightenment and what were the cognitive strategies that the travellers used when they encountered the English. The research is based on the method of content analysis applied to the Tuscan traveller Luigi Angiolini, who is then compared to five other Tuscan travellers. An analysis of various aspects of the definition of the Self and of collective identification ensues.

We try to find out to what extent Pratesi's creation was influenced by the environment in which he was born and grew up. Next is an analytical part, in which we introduce several major topics that the author uses in his novels (focusing on numerous elements) and according to those we attempt to create a comprehensive picture of Tuscany and its inhabitants at the time. This is based on two major works, the novels: L'Eredità and Perfidie del caso. A brief insight into the language of Pratesi's works with emphasis on regional and dialect influences is considered too. In conclusion we outline the strengths and weaknesses of the author's novels and try to figure out why Mario Pratesi is an author rather less well-known, both in the Czech Republic as in his native country, Italy. We will try to put the author in historical and...
